What You Should Know About the Diverticulitis Diet

November 1st, 2011

There are some people who have the wrong impression about the Diverticulitis Diet, and think that it works like any other weigh loss diet. The diet is a medically prescribed to individuals who suffer from a condition known as Diverticulitis.

Just like the diabetic diet is prescribed to diabetics to help them regulate their blood sugar, this diet is meant to help those suffering from Diverticulitis to treat the condition. Diverticulitis is characterized by the swelling of the intestinal lining, which may arise due to an infection.

The condition is thought to be sparked by certain foods which are not easily dispelled from the body, through normal bowel movements. The diet prescribed to those who suffer from this condition consists of foods which generally increase bowel movements, but lessen the load or heaviness of the wastes passed out of the body.

In summary, the diet is not meant to help you lose weight but it has been proven to reduce the likelihood of developing Diverticulitis later on in life.
